Neil Rosen’s Top 10 of 2011:
10) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
9) X-Men: First Class
8) Source Code
7) Moneyball
6) Bridesmaids
5) The Artist
4) Hanna
3) The Descendants
2) Midnight in Paris
1) Crazy, Stupid, Love
Alright, let me start out by saying that although I have only seen three films on his top ten list I still have a few things to say.
I saw The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, X-Men and Bridesmaids. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. Top ten material? Sure, if you consider all the other crap released this year. I think Bridesmaids was especially good. It was well written and very, very funny. I enjoyed X-Men for what it was, a superhero movie. TGWDT was also good, I can’t say I loved it, but I adore Fincher and his work. Besides this is not a review for it.
Moving on, Source Code, Hanna and Moneyball just did not interest me. I’m not really into Action, Sci-fi or both. I also greatly dislike baseball. It is worth noting though that Steve Zaillian wrote the screenplay for both Moneyball and TGWDT.
I had never heard of The Artist until I saw this list.
I wanted to, and still plan to, see Midnight in Paris and The Descendants. I immensely enjoy Woody Allen as a writer/director and even though not all of his films “work” (they can be hit or miss) his work has a certain flare. I have made it a sort of goal to watch all his films, even Zelig. It also doesn’t hurt when fellow fans tell you how good his latest movie is/was. When it comes to The Descendants I’m not a big fan of George Clooney, but Alexander Payne is wonderful. His vignette in Paris, je t’aime is the best one. Highly recommend the entire film to be exact.
Now for number one, the soul purpose for this post. What? Crazy, Stupid, Love? Really?! The romantic comedy like any other romantic comedy ever made? The movie that is so cliche I can guess the ending with only seeing the trailer? The movie with it’s trite dialogue and in my opinion the overrated Steve Carell? That is what Mr. Rosen picked for his number one of 2011.
And just for the hell of it, what follows is Neil Rosen’s Worst 10 (Top 10 Worst) of 2011:
10) What’s Your Number?
9) Carnage
8) The Big Bang
7) Just Go With It
6) Trespass
5) Hall Pass
4) New Year’s Eve
3) Swinging with the Finkels
2) Super 8
1) The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1
I saw nothing on this list. And I would probably only watch them to see how bad they are. Especially Trespass (Nicolas Cage!), New Year’s Eve, and Twilight.
If anyone would like to see what Neil Rosen had to say specifically I’ve posted the links below.
